Why remove collective?
The POH stipulates that the passenger collective must be removed for solo operation. Probably a simple reason that I can’t think of. …..????

Re: Why remove collective?
With passenger belts not stretched tight around an occupant, they can pose an entanglement hazard to the collective.

Re: Why remove collective?
No not that. Our lateral control limit change a LOT, with a passenger or not a passenger. Depending on how your ship hangs, your CG, and how the cyclic stick is positioned, you could run out of right cyclic control because the center stick and your right leg get in the way, should you require a quick and large right cyclic control input. Depending on your size and control adjustments, it can be adjusted to work with it in there, BUT, until you’ve learned what some is old timers know from experience, do what the book says and take it out for solo.
Cyclic stick POSITION can be adjusted to any place you want it, with the lateral control Rod end bearing, but the pilot weight and size will have a lot to do with WHERE that stick needs to be. New ships should be checked out by an experienced RW pilot before new pilots attempt to fly them. NO ONE ,REGARDLESS OF EXPERIENCE ,can fly a ship that’s rigged wrong! |
